Professor Norikazu Shimizu, (CV >>>), President of the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) and distinguished scientist at the Yamaguchi University, Yamaguchi, Japan, awarded by the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (>>>) has developed methodology for following the ground surface using satelites. He will present the application of this methodology to the biggest landslide in Zagreb and settlements of Tuzla, in the lecture organized by the Croatian Geotechnical Society and Croatian Geological Survey (>>>), on Sathurday, 19.05.2018. from 10:00 to 11, in the Croatian Geological Survey, Sachsova 2, Zagreb (>>>). After the lecture Professor Shimizu will be open to discussion.

Seizmic standards and civil engineering administration in Japan
Lecture Seizmic standards and civil engineering administration in Japan will be given by
Mr. Kazuhiro Hashimoto, president of the Japanese agency The Building Center of Japan, and
Mr. Toshiyuki Inoue, president of the organization Center for Better Living.
Lecture is organized by the Embassy of Japan in Croatia as one in the series of events in celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Croatia.
Lecture will be given Wednesday, 2.May 2018. from 11:00 to 12:30 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb, Kačićeva 26.

UCLA Symposium in Honour of Professor Mladen Vucetic
Professor Mladen Vucetic, who started his studies, and his life, in Zagreb, after 30 years of research and teaching at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is retiring from University, and this year’s GeoExpo hosted jointly by the UCLA CalGeo student chapter at UCLA and UCLA, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is a special event in honor of Professor Mladen Vucetic. The program includes a distinguished lineup of speakers in soil dynamics and earthquake engineering, all of whom are connected to Professor Vucetic as former students, mentors, or collaborators: Professor Ricardo Dobry, Professor Kennet H.
