Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, is  currently recruiting graduate students in Offshore Geotechnics for our new Centre for Renewable Energy Marine Structures, in collaboration with Cranfield University. They have up to 2 fully funded doctoral studentships in offshore geotechnical engineering available, for a start in October 2015. They are open to applications from those who will complete undergraduate degrees or MSc degrees, or those currently working in industry and looking to develop a career in offshore renewable energy.

Doctoral Training Centre for Renewable Energy Marine Structures

We are open for applications for the Oxford intake for the Centre For Renewable Energy Marine Structures (http://www.rems-cdt.ac.uk/) – Up to 2 fully funded doctoral studentships in offshore geotechnical engineering are available – start date October 2015.

REMS (Renewable Energy Marine Structures) is an EPSRC funded Doctoral Training Centre aiming to train fifty Engineering Doctorate (EngD/DEng) and University Doctorate (PhD/DPhil) students over an eight-year period, admitting ten new students each year for five years starting in October 2014. This is a collaborative partnership between Cranfield University and the University of Oxford. The REMS CDT will conduct research across the full spectrum of offshore and marine renewable energy structures integrating deep specialist areas such as geotechnical engineering, the soil-structure interface, whole-system structural design & optimisation, design for manufacture, inspection maintenance and repair, and structural integrity including fatigue and fracture mechanics in the marine environment. This recruitment is for the second cohort of students.

This is a 4-year EngD/DEng and PhD/DPhil programme, with the Oxford stream of work focusing on geotechnical engineering. Students will be based in the Civil Engineering research group at Oxford, and will be enrolled at the University of Oxford. The studentships are available to UK nationals, covering fees at the level set for UK/EU students plus a competitive stipend (tax-free maintenance grant) for the four years of the course. EU nationals are eligible to receive a fees-only award if they do not have “settled status” in the UK. Self-funded overseas students are also welcome to apply, and will be considered along with the gathered field of candidates for the studentships.
