We received congratulations from the famous Professor Kenji Ishihara, PhD,
to whose honour was organized the first in this series of conferences
(International Conference for Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering, Tokyo 1995),
who was the ISSMGE President from 1997 to 2001,
and who delivered the 2013-year Nonveiller Lecture.
While he was Professor at the University of Tokyo
Misko Cubrinovski and Sonja Zlatovic had great luck and honour to be his doctoral students.
Both Professor Ishihara and Professor Cubrinvski took part in the European Danubean Conference we organized, Poreč 1998, Geotechnical Hazards,
together with over 300 participants – 60% from the Danubean countries, but also from Italy, France, Japan (5 participants), Canada, Norway… including the former ISSMGE President Michele Jamiolkowski, future President William van Impe, Dr. Suzanne Lacasse, Professors Shamsher Prakash, Delwyn Fredlund, Susumu Yasuda, Diego Lo Presti, Renato Lancellota, Serge Leroueil, Mladen Vučetić, Dobroslav Znidarčić, our dear colleague Dr Neven Matasović.
With the excellent programme of the conference, with rich cultural events (including the concert of the superb Zagreb soloists at the Poreč Euphrasius basilica, finest restaurants and interesting excursions through the beautiful Istria, this was a conference many remeber with superlatives.
We intend to make this new conference even more rich and rewarding, in various ways, bringing here many colleagues including the best world experts, among cultural monuments and natural beauties of this magnificent part of the world – to facilitate discussions, learning, development, and creating new cooperations and friendships.
