The University of Dundee, Division of Civil Engineering, has 2 fully funded Energy Technology Partnership (ETP)-industry collaborative PhD projects available for UK students or EU nationals. The projects are co-supervised by industry and another Scottish University (Aberdeen and Glasgow respectively). The projects are on:
(i) ISGCUBIP: Investigation of the critical SG for cables and umbilicals during various backfilling and installation processes, in association with Subsea7 Ltd, supervised by Dr Michael Brown (m.j.z.brown@dundee.ac.uk) and Prof Howard Chandler (The University of Aberdeen). The objective of the project is to develop a greater understanding of the geotechnical controls on the behaviour of cables/umbilicals and pipelines during subsea bed burial. Closing date for applications 31st July. More details and application via:

(ii) Innovative use of Thermal Piles as heat storage to enhance Embankment Performance, in association with Scottish Road Research Board, supervised by Dr Anthony Leung (a.leung@dundee.ac.uk) and Prof Simon Wheeler (University of Glasgow). The project aims to explore the effectiveness of using thermal piles for improving the winter resilience of transport earthwork slopes. The research will be predominantly based on physical model studies utilising the geotechnical beam centrifuge at the University of Dundee. More details and application via:
